Mobile Position Determining Technologies (Why Multiple Technologies Are Necessary)
Each location-sensitive service and application presents its own challenges in terms of required accuracy, latency, reliability, cost tolerance, and other parameters. Similarly, each mobile locating technology has its own advantages and limitations in terms of performance, cost, and deployment requirements. No single locating technology can meet the needs of all services or applications in all environments. To provide operators with maximum flexibility in meeting their location support requirements, Geometrix MLC can provide the most complete array of locating technology options ever assembled in a single location system. These locating technologies (A-GPS, CID, E-CID, Matrix, and U-TDOA) can be applied individually or in combination to obtain the desired results.
Geometrix MLC is the only mobile location system that offers operators the ability to deploy and use, individually or in concert, a complete selection of mobile locating technologies. Geometrix MLC can be specifically tailored to support an operator's deployment plan for location-based services (LBS). That plan might differ within subsets of the operator's service area, driven by factors such as:
- Cellular or population density
- Concentration of enterprises
- Consumer base demographics
- Incidence of traffic tie-ups
- Requests from emergency service bureaus
- Security agency initiatives
With Geometrix MLC, the locating technology(ies) deployed over any given area can be consistent or varied according to the LBS services and application(s) an operator implements in particular sub-areas. For example, to support Commercial LBS, a carrier might select Matrix and/or A-GPS for optimum cost economies, capacity, or other performance attributes, while to support public safety or security applications, the carrier might implement U-TDOA for its reliability and ability to locate all mobiles. Geometrix MLC can be expanded or upgraded at any time to incorporate additional locating methods, increase coverage, or increase capacity.
