The modular design of Andrew towers allows you to configure both the height and structure to meet your specific requirements.
Towers can be configured with or without a full parallel section. The Type A tower has a full parallel section. The Type B tower has the parallel section completely removed. The information below explains which configuration may be best suited for specific applications.
For certain applications, you may opt to use a heavier section of the Light Medium tower instead of a Medium or Heavy tower. Some factors to consider are:
- Stringent restrictions on the twist and
sway of the tower
- Excessive antenna loading
- Tower site located in high wind
speed environment
When opting to use a heavier section of the Light Medium tower instead of a Medium or Heavy tower, the parallel section of the 46 m Light Medium tower (the top 6 m) is removed and only the bottom 40 m of the 46 m tower is used. In this configuration the tower is specified as a Type B tower.
The advantages and disadvantages of the Type B as opposed to the Type A tower are listed below:
Advantages:
- Stronger tower
- Low twist and sway
|
Disadvantages:
- Increased weight and cost
- Increased foundation size
|
This flexibility in tower application can also be used in other ways to meet customer
objectives. Other sections of the tower could be used to meet specific client requirements.
