RF Power Amplifiers

RF Power Amplifiers

Andrew offers the industry's widest range of RF amplifiers for use in wireless RF communications systems.

  • Andrew designs, manufactures, and distributes the telecommunications industry's largest portfolio of single-carrier and multi-carrier RF power amplifiers for use in Cellular, PCS/DCS, CDMA, W/CDMA, and 3G systems.
  • Andrew's Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMA series amplifiers) are low noise units that are mounted at the top of the base station tower in close proximity to the base station antenna. TMAs increase sensitivity of the reverse link to improve reception of weak signals.

Published Articles

High Frequency Electronics published a series of articles on the major aspects of power amplifier technology, design, and performance.

“RF Microwave and Power Amplifier and Transmitter Technologies” was published in five parts, each examining different aspects of this subject:

Books

RF and Baseband Techniques for Software Defined Radio

RF and Baseband Techniques for Software Defined Radio by Peter B. Kenington (Artech House, 2005). This book covers transmitter and receiver architecture that makes software-defined radio a reality for both handset and infrastructure. Among the subjects covered are RF and analog baseband components and subsystems; selecting the right technique for any application; high speed data converter technologies for transceiver designs; broadband and multiband techniques; diplexer issues in transceivers; linearization in low noise amplifiers, receiver front ends, transmitters, and power amplifiers; and cost factors associated with particular design techniques. Peter Kenington, former Director of Advanced Technology at Andrew, is a fellow of the IEE* and senior member of the IEEE*.   He earned a bachelor degree in both electrical and electronics engineering and a doctorate in communications engineering from University of Bristol, United Kingdom.

High-Linearity RF Amplifier DesignHigh-Linearity RF Amplifier Design by Peter B. Kenington (Artech House, 2000). This comprehensive 588-page book examines and compares all major RF power amplifier linearization techniques. It covers modeling and measurement of amplifier non-linearity and describes methods for overcoming non-linearity in a wide range of applications, including base stations, mobile communications systems and handsets, and satellite systems. Peter Kenington, PhD, is the fomer Director of Advanced Technology at Andrew.
