| BEIJING, Nov 26, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Andrew, the CommScope, Inc. division that is a global leader in wireless
communications products and systems, has won the "Award for Best Service
Teamwork" for the company's--and its employees'--outstanding contributions in
China during 2008 toward natural disaster relief and Olympic Games
communications networking support.
The service teamwork award was granted to Andrew by the China Association of
Communication Enterprises and presented at the 4th China Communication Network
Operation and Maintenance Conference in Beijing. Andrew's outstanding efforts in
helping China restore wireless communications after huge snowstorms in South
China and the devastating Sichuan earthquake were especially highlighted.
"This is a tremendous honor for our company and all the Andrew employees here
in China and around the world," said Jim Beckmann, general manager of Andrew's
Suzhou, China, facility, who accepted the award. "This is high acknowledgment of
the outstanding and consistent performance of Andrew's products that endured
during both disasters, and the incredible efforts of our service teams in
providing relief and post-disaster reconstruction following the snowstorms and
earthquake. It also is representative and symbolic of the spirit and enthusiasm
demonstrated every day by Andrew and CommScope people on behalf of our
customers."
Several South China provinces were struck in early 2008 by their most severe
winter weather in 50 years, knocking several thousands of China Mobile base
transceiver sites out of service. Andrew sent engineers to the worst-hit areas
in Chenzhou, Hunan Province to assist China Mobile with technical instruction
and manpower. Andrew's engineers volunteered to assist with some of the most
remote sites under extremely harsh conditions, which included travel by foot
over mountains for a dozen hours every day while carrying heavy equipment. At
the more than two dozen sites the team restored in Hunan Province, not a single
Andrew antenna or cable needed to be repaired, despite the storms' toppling of
numerous cell towers.
Andrew also answered China Mobile's request for support after the devastating
Sichuan earthquake. Andrew quickly donated antenna and cable systems to assist
in restoration of wireless communications services in the affected areas and to
assist communications by rescue and recovery crews.
Andrew has long played a significant role in the Chinese market and recently
provided solutions for numerous significant projects such as National Center for
the Performing Arts, Beijing-Tianjin high speed railway, Beijing Subway,
Ministry of Environmental Protection Building and Shanghai Metro. Andrew's long
history of providing advanced wireless infrastructure solutions in China began
in the early 1970s and has led to its establishment of solid, long term
cooperative relationships with the major Chinese operators and OEMs. The
company's two manufacturing and three research and development facilities in
China provide extensive in-country capabilities for product design and
production, a key factor in development of world-class products and on-time
deliveries to Chinese customers.
